Behind great music are lives, relationships, ideas, and stories that rarely appear on the printed page.

This Saturday, Richard Fleischman—author, longtime chamber musician, and our storyteller for the afternoon—joins pianist Marina Radiushina, violinist Nathan Meltzer, and cellist Vicky Wang for an intimate exploration of Schubert, Clara and Robert Schumann, and Brahms.

Music is interwoven with readings and conversation, inviting us into the personal and creative worlds surrounding these works—and revealing deeper connections between the music and the lives behind it.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

​

NATHAN MELTZER · VIOLIN
Recipient of a 2026 Avery Fisher Career Grant and winner of the 2023 Concert Artists Guild Competition, violinist Nathan Meltzer has emerged as one of the outstanding artists of his generation. He was awarded Second Prize at the 2022 International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition and was the youngest-ever winner of the Windsor Festival International String Competition. A Juilliard graduate and longtime student of Itzhak Perlman and Li Lin, Meltzer has appeared as soloist with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic, Orchestre national d’Île-de-France, and numerous orchestras throughout Europe and the Americas.

VICKY WANG · CELLO
Cellist Vicky Wang is a Juilliard-trained performer and educator whose career encompasses chamber music, performance, and teaching. She is on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College Division and is Assistant Professor of Cello at the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music, where she performs with the faculty ensemble-in-residence, Trio 180. Her performances and festival appearances have taken her from the United States to Europe and Asia, including the Verbier Festival, Spoleto Festival, and Pacific Music Festival in Japan.

MARINA RADIUSHINA · PIANO

Award-winning pianist Marina Radiushina has performed at Carnegie Hall, Suntory Hall, the Salzburg Festival, Rotterdam Festival, and the Mariinsky Theatre, where she made her debut under Valery Gergiev. A former member of Decoda, Carnegie Hall’s resident chamber ensemble, she has collaborated with leading artists and ensembles including Joshua Bell and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and has worked with conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, John Adams, David Robertson, and Pablo Heras-Casado. As Artistic Director of the Miami Chamber Music Society and Mainly Mozart Festival, Radiushina brings together internationally acclaimed artists in adventurous chamber music and interdisciplinary programs.

RICHARD FLEISCHMAN · AUTHOR & STORYTELLER
Musician, educator, and author Richard Fleischmann brings a lifetime inside classical music to the written word. A Juilliard-trained violist, he was a member of the San Francisco Symphony, served for more than two decades as Principal Violist of the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra, and has performed under such legendary musicians as Leonard Bernstein and Sergiu Celibidache. His honors include the Windsor Prize, presented by Bernstein, and Juilliard’s Eduard Steuermann Memorial Prize.
Today, Fleischmann is also a prolific author whose writing explores music, history, and the lives behind the art. For Between the Lines, he steps into the role of storyteller, weaving readings and commentary through the music of Schubert, the Schumanns, and Brahms—inviting us to discover the human stories that exist between the notes.
